Paul was a well thought of referee throughout Bucks clubs. Serving on the Executive as appointment and reappointments secretary for 23 years between 1998 -2022. Paul was awarded County colours in 2016 and shortly after life membership of Bucks referees society. Amersham and Chiltern club members voted him as an honorary member of their club.

He officiated before the time of referee coaches and still rose through the ranks as a highly rated referee. He once officiated a mid week game officiating Bath United at the Recreation Ground with several internationals playing.

Whilst still officiating he coached some Bucks referees notably Mike Hudson who rose to the top of our game.

He finished his officiating days as an assistant referee and time keeper at Wasps. In this last role he was honoured by being appointed to time keep at an international match. On his passing, the rugby premiership referees the following week wore black arm bands to honour his services to rugby.

His funeral was graced by a "who's who" of ruby officiating with present and past international referees coming to pay their respects
